Round 19 - 16 August 08 vs Newcastle City
Newcastle City 29:09 - 165 def Terrigal 11:10 - 76

This weeks game was always going to be a challenge; Newcastle on their home ground. The Blues put scoreboard pressure on from the start, opening up a commanding lead. Even though we commenced with some confidence with the opening goal of the game, it did not take long for them to show us why they are a top 2 team.

Not before too long the opposition had us frustrated and again we let ourselves down by giving away some 50 meter penalties which resulted in Newcastle goals and secured their grip on the game. The first 2 quarters were very one sided and we had by half time given away an almost impossible margin to make up.

Nevertheless to our credit we came out after half time with a completely different attitude and applied pressure all around the ground. It was encouraging to finish the game knowing that we can match a team that is a true grand final contender. However just as disappointing knowing we are not going to be a part of the finals.

By the end of the game the scoreboard reflected a comprehensive victory to the Blues even though the Panthers did outscore them in the second half.

Let us hope we will learn from our mistakes in preparation for next season.

Go Panthers!!

Best on Ground: T.Kosmeier, M.Cilia, C.Bishop, P.Van Dam, C.Grentell, D.Peek

Round 17 - 2nd August 08 vs BYE

Round 18 - 9 August 08 vs Lake Macqurie
Terrigal 30:17 - 197 def Lake Macquarie 12:02 - 74

It was a very successful day for our senior sides with all 3 grades winning comfortably. Again another true team performance by the senior side, which easily accounted for Lake Macquarie.

Special mention must be given to our coach and co captains who gave continuous drive through the mid field while the big fella in “Rocky” booted 9 majors to be our leading forward for the day.

We will need to carry this form into next week’s game if we are to be any chance in defeating Newcastle City on their home turf. A little luck must also go our way as we hope Killarney Vale will go down to Warners Bay. Unfortunately it will then come down to percentage and unfortunately it is not in our favour.

Nevertheless rest assured the Panthers will be throwing everything at Newcastle in the hope to finish the year on a high and give the players something to take away with over the summer break.

Go Panthers!!

Best on Ground: C.Bishop, C.Grentell, D.Peek, J. McCann, J.Van Dam, P.Van Dam

Round 14 - 12 July 2008 vs Nelson Bay
Nelson Bay Forfeited

Round 15 - 20 July 08 vs Wyong
Wyong 14:14 - 98 def Terrigal 13:10 - 88

Round 16 - 26 July 08 vs Gosford
Terrigal 12 : 15 - 87 def Gosford 08 : 15 - 63

With a near full side the Panthers were in control through out the game. The team moved the ball quickly out of the back line and gave our forwards ample opportunity to convert.

Playing on a smaller ground also assisted us as we have no opportunity ourselves to train on a full ground under the current lighting situation.

It is extremely disappointing not being able to field a full strength side each week as the difference is quite noticeable. With the skill level up and a cool headed approach to the game the Panthers proved they have got what it takes.

Unfortunately our bed has been made now and we only have our selves to blame for our ladder position at the end of the season. Looking forward, we have 2 games remaining and we will be doing everything possible to secure those as wins to show to the rest of the comp that next year we will be a very strong side.

Best on Ground: J.Male, J.Polglase, D.Grimmond, D.Peek, S.O''Brien, T.Kosmeier

Round 13 - 5 July 08 vs Cardiff Hawks
Cardiff 24:12 - 156 def Terrigal 5:10 - 40

With a very depleted side we travelled north to Cardiff and were unfortunately shown a thing or two. Cardiff a very well drilled and disciplined side beat us in every area. Again poor kicking in front of goal let us down on the score board. Although we new from the onset it was going to be a mighty effort, we again did not put enough pressure on from the commencement of the game and allowed the opposition to get the better of us early on.

The next 5 games will be critical as the top 4 teams become more and more distant from us.

There is the possibility that we can still make the finals but it all may come down to our final game against New Castle.

Best on Ground: S. O'Brien, I. Tyley, M. Studdert, W. Kennedy, R. Shaw, N. Szecko

Round 12 - 28 June 08 vs Warners Bay
Terrigal 13:16 - 94 def Warners Bay 11:09 - 75

No passengers this week as everyone contributed. This was the result of a good week on the track, heightened enthusiasm, belief and the desire to just enjoy our football. With a much improved attitude the boys went about their roles in a disciplined manner and although the Doggies got away from us in the first quarter we pegged them back by half time to give ourselves a realistic chance of winning.

The scores remained even throughout the third term with only points separating us at the last break. Knowing we were coming home with the scoring end our tails remained up. The Doggies skipped away to a 2.5 goal lead mid way through the last term. Undeterred by the swing in the game coach Chris Bishop told us to slow the game down, man up and move the ball long. The game turned and the Panthers over ran the Doggies with 3 mins to go. The Panthers kept their foot down and secured the victory with a couple of late goals.

Without a doubt our best game of the year; which has ignited some real enthusiasm around the club and proved to us that we do have what it takes to mix it with the best. With finals hopes still alive we will be entering this weeks round clash against Cardiff with the attitude to just have a ‘real crack’ at them.

Best on Ground: P.Van Dam, R.Webster, J.Male, S.O''Brien, S.Lynch, M.Studdert

Round 11 - 21 June 08 vs Killarney Vale
Killarney Vale 12:13-85 def Terrigal 1:8-14

Opportunity gone begging !! There really is not much more to say than we let ourselves down. Flat from the start the Panthers did not ever get into top gear and although with the passion and determination of a few they were unable to fire the group. Pete Van Dam was clearly the standout as he worked hard all day.

Under very poor conditions we were held to an embarrassing 1 goal. Unable to find the form that we had against them last time the Bombers were clearly stronger in all areas on the day. The lack of full ground training and recently any ground training has certainly taken its toll.

We will have to come up with something exceptional over the next 2 weeks if we are going to be any chance against Warners Bay and Cardiff.

Best on Ground: P.Van Dam, S.Lynch, C.Grentell, J.Polglase, N.Wheeler ,R. Weber

Round 10 - 14 June 08 vs Newcastle City
Newcastle City 16:16–112 def Terrigal 5:9-39

Newcastle City was fair the more superior side on this occasion. They out classed us in most areas. The back line can again hold their head high as they continued to repel attacks. More attention must be put on one on one accountability and taking the opportunity when in attack ourselves.

It is becoming evident that through lack of training on our ground is taking its toll with our ability to handle the ball cleanly and dispose of effectively. It is critical that we can get on our ground this week and prepare accordingly.

This week we meet Killarney Vale which will shape up as the match of the round. This match is crucial for us as we want to consolidate and firm up as a finals contender.

Best on Ground: J. Polglase, I. Tyley, M. Cilia, P. Van Dam, D. Peek, N. Wheeler

Round 9 - 31 May 08 vs Lake Macquarie
Terrigal 30:16-196 def Lake Macquarie 6:8-44

A much more determined more disciplined side turned up to play against Lake Macquarie this weekend. With solid performances across the field we stamped our authority early on and never looked back. Although it was a game we were expected to win it allowed us the opportunity to put into practice some of our set plays and team rules.

The ball was repelled well from the backline throughout the day which gave the centres and the forward line ample opportunity to convert. Although the end score does show a significant margin in our favour it could have even been greater if we had taken those opportunities more often and converted.

Next week the senior team will have a break from playing what with the long weekend but we will be training and focussing on what will be one of our biggest challenges and opportunities to see where we are at when we play Newcastle City at home the week after. Hopefully a number of senior players will be back from injury and we can field our strongest team for the season.

Best on Ground - T. Kosmeier, J. Male, J. Darling, S. Lynch, M. Cilia, G. Kirkman

Round 8 - 24 May 08 vs Gosford
Gosford 10:17-77 def Terrigal 4:10-34

Unfortunately this will be a game to forget. We must learn from our mistakes to ensure this will not be repeated.

Little at all can be taken from the match except that it pointed out our flaws, which will give us the opportunity to improve on. In a match where we were over run from the start it was our back line that was the only shining light.

It will be imperative that we work hard on the training track and get back on the winners list to make sure we stay in touch with the top 4.

Best on Ground: I. Tyley, M. Cilia, T. Kosmeier, P. James, G. Kirkman, S. Lynch

Round 7 - 10 May 08 vs BYE

Round 6 - 3 May 08 vs Nelson Bay
Terrigal Avoca 23:13–151 def Nelson Bay 05:13–43

It was great to get back on the winners board after a disappointing game against the Hawks.

Travelling to Nelson bay did not seem to effect us and with also a greatly undermanned team the game was still very much under control from the onset.

C.Bishop found his old form as he continued to clear the ball from the centre square giving the forwards ample opportunity to pile on the goals.

It was a day where we regained confidence and fine tuned our match play set ups.The only unfortunate incident was the loss of big man John McCann with a hamstring injury. We all wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

The senior side now has 2 weeks off and will then meet Gosford at home.

Best on Ground: C. Bishop, T. Kosmeier, P. Van Dam, J. Van Dam, C. Grentell, D. Grimmond

Round 5 - 26 April 08 vs Cardiff Hawks
Cardiff 16.17-113 def. Terrigal 7:9-51

Our home game was shifted from the coast to Newcastle due to our ground, Hylton Moore not being acceptable to play on because of the heavy rain endured through out the week. On a surface fit for kings in Newcastle we let our selves down badly.

The first 15 mins of the game we attacked the goals into a slight breeze but unfortunately with little to no result. Cardiff was quick to take advantage as they capitalised on our lack of score board pressure and established a commanding lead.

This trend continued through out the day. The intense pressure exposed our weaknesses; over use of the ball, not as sharp skills and lack of fitness over all. Areas our coach “Bishy” knows too well is the problem and is doing everything to rectify it. The underlying issue is level of commitment from the players on the training track.

What we can take from the game was with a little persistence and more direct attack on the ball we can match them around the ground. Our last quarter was our best; comfortably outscoring them and having at least 60% of the play.

Although it was a game we would rather forget, we know where we lie now and what we must work on if we are going to be a true finals contender.

Best on Ground: J. Pollock, C. Grentell, D. Grimmond, J. McCann, M. Cilia, T. Kosmeier

Round 4 - 19 April 08 vs Wyong
Terrigal Avoca 14 : 13 – 97 def. Wyong10 : 11 – 71

On a very poor surface the Panthers were able to with stand a late challenge by the Magpies. The surface so poor that the U18’s and reserve grade games were cancelled. Although legs weary under the conditions and skills were not as sharp as normal there were passages of play to suggest that the senior squad is going to be there abouts come finals time.

It was pleasing to see our coach back (Bishy) in action after some time off with a hamstring injury. His direction around the ground proved to be invaluable.

As for the better players on the day they include: John (Rocky ) McCann with his strong marking and five goals, the Van Damm brothers and Jimmy Polglase.

This week we clash with the front runners Cardiff at home; with a full squad available; this will be a very good opportunity to see exactly where we are currently at.

Best on Ground - J. McCann, P.Van Damm, J.Polglase, J.VanDamm, C.Grentell, N.Wheeler.

Round 3 - 12 April 08 vs Warners Bay
Warners Bay 14.15–99 def Terrigal Avoca 10.09-69

A well undermanned Terrigal Avoca fell short on Saturday. Conditions were heavy under foot and unfortunately with our lack of full ground use through out the preseason this may have proven the ultimate difference.

Our backline worked tirelessly all day with Ian Tyley and Matt Cilia repelling most attacks. Pete Van Damm gave us good run through the middle however it was not enough on this occasion.

It is encouraging to know that we have some good depth at the club now; with as many as 5, U18 boys playing this week. All boys did them selves proud and will learn from the experience. Next week is a must win for the senior side so we can begin to consolidate our spot in the top four and build momentum for the middle of the season.

This coming Saturday we take on local side Wyong at home. Again this will prove to be a challenge, however with the addition of some senior players we will be confident we can obtain the 4 points.

Best on Ground - I. Tyley, P. Van Dam, M. Cilia, E. Chandler, J. McCann, C. Shaw

Round 2 - 5 April 08 vs Killarney Vale
Killarney Vale 12.11-83 def Terrigal Avoca 11.15-81

The Terrigal Avoca seniors met at the Adelaide Street Oval in Killarney Vale last weekend with the goal to come away with the 4 points and upset the reigning premieres of 2007.

After an encouraging start to the season and a solid preseason the team believes strongly in itself. Unfortunately on this occasion the Panthers simple errors through out the game, including poor kicking for goal, over use of the ball and missed opportunities let us down. Losing 2 of our key on ballers in David Peak and Ryan Webster hurt us early as the interchange was rotated accordingly to fill the void.

An opportunity went begging in the dying seconds where we could have snatched the game from them but it wasn't to be. We are determined to right our wrongs next time we meet in round 11. We have learnt from this loss and have immediately put it behind us with our focus on our first home game against Warners Bay this week.

Best on Ground: J. Polglase, P.Van Dam, T.Kosmeier, S.Lynch, D.Grimmond, C.Grentell.

Round 1 - 29 March 08 vs Gosford
Terrigal Avoca 15.13-103 def Gosford 11.13-79
