Game 4, 10/05/08 vs Pensuila Swans
15.13.108 to 1.2.8 Another Big Win

Panthers Run Free At Home.

This was another great game for the Panthers full of running, endeavour and spirit. The team was moved around a bit this week that resulted in some players having very different roles to play. Even with these moves the Boys were still able to apply the basics of staying in front of their opponent and affecting the course of the ball. Communication with each other still needs to be improved as well as our kicking for goal, mainly in the second quarters, where we missed some very easy shots.

The mercy rule was applied late in the last quarter.

A significant stat from the match is that we had 12 individual goal kickers. This shows that the boys are looking for each other and are developing confidence in their team mates.
The only negative was a 50 metre penalty in the third quarter!!!
Though the umpires did comment on how enjoyable it was to umpire a game where everybody was concentrating on the ball.

Once again, well done boys, a big match coming up, see you all at training.

Mitchell C always looking for open players to run the ball into the forward line.
Tiger great tackling and work rate even when he swapped teams.
Joshua solid in defence, some good tackling and looking for team mates.

Jake good ruck work, excellent shepherding and targeted kicking, 1 goal.
Mitchell H. 1 goal great assisting and running game teamed well with Owen
Owen 2 goals quick at the ball always looking for opportunities some great overhead marks.

Fin 1 goal strong around the packs solid effort always looking for team mates.
Chris 1 goal, solid marks, good shepherding and tracking.
Alex 3goals in the first half, enjoys the additional match and always looks for opportunities great handball to Owen resulting in a goal.

Brandon 1 goal, solid marking, good talking and encouraging team mates.
Morgan good hands, great support for his team mates always looking for a shepherd or handball.
Jay 1 goal, quick thinking and fast handballs, always hard at the ball.

Pat great bumps kept the forwards out of the game 2 safe marks.
Liam 1 goal doesn’t let up all game another that enjoys the exta game.
Willow 1 goal great, forward target linked in well with Owen and Hutto.

Great team effort

Bring on Bateau Bay

Game 7 14/06/08 vs Saratoga Hawks
12.9.81 to 6.7.43 A Very Slippery Win

PANTHERS SLIP & SLIDE TO ANOTHER WIN

This week saw the Panthers playing a 2:00pm match on a shortened ground because of the wet conditions.

The side was also down on numbers due sickness and family commitments. This enabled the coaches to organize the sides to ensure a competitive game. Their solution was to allow Saratoga to field their full team of 16 and The Panthers to field their full team of 14.

This proved about right with a highly competitive first half. The boys found the conditions difficult to adjust to with many failed attempts to control the ball. To the Panther’s credit they learnt from their difficulties and there were many examples of great play both individually and as a team.

The third quarter was the most important for the Panthers as they were against a strong wind and with rain threatening, Saratoga thought they were in with a chance. The lessons learned from the first two quarters were well applied and in true Panther spirit and some great team play Saratoga were outscored.

By the fourth quarter the game was over and it was just a matter of matching Saratoga’s endeavors to ensure another comprehensive win for the boys.

For the second game in a row we scored more goals than behinds a sure sign of growing skills and confidence.

Well done to all. The improvement continues.

Keep reflecting on the things you have done well and remember how you felt doing them.

Game 6, 31/5/08 vs Northern Lakes Power
13.6.84 to 9.5.59 Best Performance Yet.

WOW WHAT A GAME!!

The match was full of running, talking, hand-balling and looking for and supporting each other.

Tiger, Owen and Jake played for Peninsula to even up the sides, on a mission to have fun and make it as difficult as possible for the Panthers. The succeeded with perfection, with all three playing great games and had Peninsula out scoring the Panthers,4 goals to 3, in the first quarter.

The Panthers responded to the added challenge, increasing focus and many people commented on the high standard of game play by all.

As usual, the Panthers increased their lead in the second and third quarters to be leading by 7 goals at the last change. Fin then replaced Tiger who needed to leave for umpire duties. Fin playing for the opposition certainly sent thoughts of concern through both players' and parents' minds. But in true Panther spirit, the team once again rose to the challenge and played yet another exceptional quarter, winning by a fantastic 31 points.

This was our first match of quality football. Even our shooting for goal was a dramatic improvement from previous weeks.

The trick now is to produce this form on a regular basis.

Well done boys!

Game 3, 3/5/2008 vs Killarney Vale Bombers
8.16.64 to 7.6.48, A Panthers' Victory

ANOTHER GREAT WIN FOR THE PANTHERS

Even though we were without Fin, the boys put up a great showing and continued their improvement.

The first quarter we were a little slow keeping up with the opposition but finally settled down and dominated the latter half. The second quarter saw the Panthers kicking 1 goal 9 behinds to 1 behind. There were some great passages of play that originated from all parts of the ground. There is a lot of potential amongst you boys- we need to think of these great passages. Kicking for goal???? A skill that we need to obviously practice.

Killarney Vale outscored us in the third quarter due to some loose manning up. This enabled them to score freely.

The fourth quarter saw the Panthers stamp their superiority on the game and in the end came out comfortable winners.

Well done again on a good team effort.

Game 2 12/4/08 vs Niagara Park Demons
8.10.58 to 6.2.38 - A Great Win!

Panthers face tough competition from Niagra in round 2.

The boys played 4 great quarters of footy, strong at it early and with great endeavour and sprit when they were challenged.
Jake’s heavy knock and blood nose in the first quarter left us a little short against a much taller opponent. However, we continued to fight on well. Niagra increased their endeavour in the second quarter and lead at the half time break

The boys produced a great 3rd quarter and stamped their mark on the game kicking 3 goals to one point; it was good old fashioned team work, strong wills and always playing the ball.
Chris, Fin and Tiger increased their work rate and every one on the team followed.

The all round team effort resulted in the Panthers coming out on top 8.10 58 to 6.2 38.

A Great Win

Mitch Hutton, 2 goals, great assistance around the goals and centre bounces.

Owen, 1 goal quick at the ball and always looking for opportunities.
Fin, dominated the game with determination and strong play all day. Great Stuff!!!

Game 1 - 5/4/08 vs Wyong
11-15-81 - 3-3-21 WIN!

Sensational Start to Season 2008

The U14's commenced the season with great spirit after only a few training sessions which did show in some original disposals but a great team effort by everyone, especially the support crew.

Maybe this week we can aim to score 4 goals a quarter.

The sensational six standouts this week were:

Fin, Willow, Chris, Owen, Tiger and Hutto

Mitchell Colmer was strong in defence with great roving around the back line packs. Often used his arm to keep his opponent away from the ball.
Tiger gave a 100% effort, great run out of defence in the last minutes always pushing forward.
Joshua - another strong defender and kept running hard at the ball.
Mitch Hutton - 1 goal, good position kicking, always looking for the next play. Linked up well with the other forwards.
Willow - 3 goals, strong marks and great vision for the goals.
Owen - always on the go, fast breaks, great support in the forward line. Was always prepared to back his judgement.
Fin - great centre ruck work, don't think we lost a hit-out, several good hip and shoulders, one sensational one when supporting Tiger on the run.
Brandon - keeps improving with every game, some great defensive work when on ball and positioned himself well.
Chris - lead the drive out of defence good all round support in the ruck in the second half and 3 goals.
Alexander - played up from the 12's, strong up forward and a great mark. Two shots from the boundary line went close.
Morgan - another key back line player with strong marking and good defensive work always stayed between his man and the ball.
Pat - solid last line of defence, kept the forwards out of the game, great concentration to stick so close the full forward.
Liam - 3 goals, great crumbing and great goals. Well done
Jay - sensational first game, a real goer, goes hard at the ball, picked the game up quickly and delighted all of us, as well as his parents
Isaac - welcome return, kept his position well and made a few nice moves, maybe this was his last game for Terrigal-Avoca.
Nick Fallon - another to play up from the under 12’s, worked hard and kept in front of his man. Had a few good touches and did not give up.

Keep up this effort boys, we will only get better!
Looking forward to our next challenge. Niagara Park at Paddy Clifton Oval.
