Illicit Drug Policy

Policy Statement

The Terrigal Avoca A.F.C is committed to providing a safe, healthy, family friendly and successful sport environment. All members of the Football Club have a responsibility to ensure that they take reasonable care to protect their own health and safety and that of others whilst in this environment by not being affected by alcohol to the extent that it impacts on their own or another person’s recreational enjoyment or safety.

Definitions

For the purpose of this Policy, the Terrigal Avoca A.F.C defines alcohol and drugs as follows:

  • Drugs” refers to a chemical substance, whether it is legal or illegal, which may have the ability to impair a person’s physical or mental capacity. These can include non-prescribed drugs, for example, but not limited to, speed, heroin, amphetamines, LSD, crack, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, etc.
  •  “Member” refers to any Committee Person, Coach, Players or social members associated with the Terrigal Avoca A.F.C.

Medical Prescribed Drugs

In circumstances where a member is taking medically prescribed drugs to manage a specific condition that may interfere with their playing performance, they are required to notify their coach. The coach, in consultation with the player, may make adjustments to the match requirements of the player concerned.

Our Commitment                               

Terrigal Avoca  A.F.C does not condone the use of illicit substances, however understands the complexities that exist with people who may have substance abuse issues.

What we will do

Terrigal  Avoca  A.F.C will endeavour to educate the playing group generally in relation to the dangers of illicit Drugs and protect players from the risk of acute or long term harm to their bodies.

Members who have concerns about playing or associating with any other playing or social member due to possible alcohol or other drug use should consult with the President of the Terrigal Avoca  A.F.C immediately.

What we ask you to do

All members and sporting personnel are required to comply with the following.

  • Do not take illicit drugs at the club, club functions, events and away trips.
  • Do not encourage others to take illicit drugs.

Non-Compliance

Should the use of illicit drugs be brought to the attention any of the Terrigal Avoca  A.F.C Committee members or coaching staff, the Terrigal Avoca  A.F.C may take the following action, enacted by any member of the Committee or coaching staff after appropriate and confidential discussion:

  • Immediately approach the member to discuss the issue and it’s implications
  • suspend the player/member from matches or club functions where appropriate until the matter is resolved to the satisfaction of the committee and coaching staff
  • remove the member from club functions if they pose a risk to themselves or others.
  • Immediately contact emergency services if there is suspicion of a drug overdose at any club function
  • counsel the player internally regarding their use of drugs
  • refer the player to appropriate organisations to address the misuse or abuse of illicit substances;

Alcohol Policy

The Terrigal Avoca A.F.C is committed to providing a safe, healthy, family friendly and successful sport environment. All members of the Football Club have a responsibility to ensure that they take reasonable care to protect their own health and safety and that of others whilst in this environment by not being affected by alcohol to the extent that it impacts on their own or another person’s recreational enjoyment or safety.

For the purpose of this Policy, the Terrigal Avoca A.F.C defines alcohol and drugs as follows:

  • “Alcohol” refers to any beverage, containing an alcoholic content that temporarily impairs a person’s physical or mental capacity.
  • “Member” refers to any Committee Person, Coach, Players or social member associated with the Terrigal Avoca A.F.C.

Our Commitment                                             

It Is recognised that after match and weekend functions organised by the football club will involve the consumption of alcohol. It is expected that club members consume alcohol responsibly at these times and takes seriously any inappropriate behaviour that results from excessive drinking.

What we will do

Serving Alcohol

Alcohol will be served at the canteen in compliance with the requirements of our club’s liquor licence and in accordance with the safety and wellbeing of patrons.

  • Only a person aged over 18 will be permitted to serve alcohol in the canteen. They are not permitted to drink while serving alcohol.
  • The liquor licence will be displayed at the bar.

Intoxicated patrons

  • Intoxicated patrons will not be served.

Underage drinking

  • People aged under 18 will not knowingly be served alcohol.
  • Staff will request proof of age, where appropriate, and only photo ID will be accepted.

Safe transport

  • Intoxicated patrons will be encouraged to take safe transport home.

Food and other drinks

  • A range of snacks and meals will be available when alcohol is served.
  • The club will provide a selection of low-alcohol and alcohol-free drinks, such as water, fruit juice, soft drink, tea and coffee.

Promoting the responsible use of alcohol

  • We will not advertise, promote or serve alcohol at junior events or activities.
  • Department of Liquor and Gaming signs will be displayed in the canteen.

What we ask you to do

All members and sporting personnel are required to comply with the following.

  • Drink and behave responsibly at all club functions, events and away trips.
  • Do not supply alcohol to team members if they are aged under 18.
  • Do not drink alcohol at the club, club functions, matches or while away on trips if you are aged under 18.
  • Do not encourage others to drink alcohol excessively.
  • Do not spike another person’s drink.

Non-Compliance

The club will take action for breaches of behaviour and responsibilities outlined in this policy.

  • If members or sporting personnel become drunk at the club or other social events they will be asked to leave. Ongoing instances of intoxication can result in disciplinary action (e.g. suspension or termination of membership).
  • Spiking of drinks is a criminal offence that can be reported to police by victims. It can lead to serious police charges being laid against the offender/s. Separate action can be taken as a breach of our state sporting organisation’s Member Protection Policy to provide for the protection, safety and welfare of members.
  • Serving alcohol to a minor is a criminal offence that can be reported to the police and the relevant liquor licensing authority by victims and their parents. It can lead to heavy fines. Separate action can be taken as a breach of our state sporting organisation’s Member Protection Policy to provide for the protection, safety and welfare of children.
  • Any person aged under 18 found to have consumed alcohol while at a club function or on a trip in the care of the club (e.g. while attending a rep carnival) may be suspended for the remainder of the competition/tournament. The young person’s parents shall be advised and will be responsible for getting their son/daughter home at their own expense.
  • Any member or sporting personnel found to have behaved inappropriately because of over-consumption of alcohol (e.g. sexual harassment, verbal abuse, physical assault, neglect of a child) will face disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by our Executive Committee.
